Typical features for the protection switches are over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, true reverse current blocking, in-rush current control, and short circuit protection. Sink switches as defined by transferring power from the Type-C USB port to the internal system, such as a battery charger. Source switches provide the Type-C USB port power from the internal power supply. These switches can protect the internal system from catastrophic failure due to over-voltage and over current. This is particularly important for PD standards as VBUS voltage can be as high as 20V, and current can be as high as 5A.
